Catch and Release
Her toes curl around the ledge.
So pretty.
So young.
Her arms are laced with sanguine slashes.
Like fishnet
Pulled taught into her flesh.
The water beckons to her
With its embracing waves, captivating mist
Begging her for a kiss.
So far below.
Her bones are tiny and frail
Ribs like a fish.
One that has lost its iridescence, that lays gasping
On the shoreline, gills flaring, eyes clouded, moments away from suffocation.
Her eyes clouded long ago.
A locket is strung limply around her neck. Three names etched on its inside, forever entombed in a silver casing.
She begins counting.
One...
